12 Reasons Why I Converted To A Part Time Redneck

I was not raised as a redneck. I was brought up on rock-n-roll, not country music. Luckily, my enjoyment of southern rock did make the transition to part time redneck a little smoother. It was my husband's family that introduced me to the redneck ways. After many years with my in-laws, they brought me around to joining in the redneck fun. Here are some reasons why I converted to a part time redneck:

  1. They sure know how to have a helluva good time!
  2. Country music is real and also a lot of fun.
  3. After initial resistance on my part, Nascar claimed me as a fan. Whoo Hoo #48 Jimmie Johnson!
  4. They really know how to have a good time!
  5. Drinking beer all day long CAN be good for you
  6. There is, in fact, a time and a place for cussing. It is just a more descriptive way of speaking.
  7. Bluegrass music is very enjoyable. Why did it take me so long to realize it?
  8. They really know how to have a great time!
  9. It is okay to have a beer at noon. Thanks to AJ, we all know it is five o'clock somewhere.
  10. What you see is what you get. You usually don't have to try and figure a redneck out.
  11. They don't spend a bunch of needless time worrying about what other people think.
  12. Did I mention that they know how to have a good time?

(Note: I don't say Hee Haw. Don't know why. Just can't bring myself to do it.)

I am going on vacation and will be spending the next week and a half with my in-laws. That brings me around to my song for today. During my vacation, if I indulge in a lot of music and beer, I will just be carrying on that old family tradition! Listen to Hank Williams Jr. sing this classic country tune and sing it along with me.

Kelly,

I enjoyed reading your post. You did a great job with your list. There is at least one thing on there that everyone can relate to. So maybe we are all part time Rednecks! lol.

Have you read my post on "A Redneck's Guide to Success"? I think you might enjoye it.

Great post, Kelly. I hope your vacation is fantastic. Listen to the screaming of the machines, the good old home-town experiences the rednecks enjoy.

As someone raised in Georgia, blue grass was never beyond my grasp and in almost all it's forms from Nickel Creek and Alison Kraus to Granpa Jones, I really enjoy it.

Maybe because I love its honesty and unpretentiousness. Whereas most country nowadays is so concerned with image that I detest it. Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban et al are more concerned with looking like rock stars and marketing to the main stream than making (God forbid) good music.

Sorry if I offended anyone who loves the artists...

JB, I agree about how commercial current country music is. I do listen to it but always find myself turning the radio up when a good REAL country song comes on!
