Hard Rock And Metal Music Fans Will Love Polaris

Indie Music Review: Polaris

Polaris is a band from Ohio that warns it is not responsible for the melting of faces. Could this warning indicate that they are a little on the hard side of rock? Indeed it is true, and Polaris has one hell of a lot to offer to heavy metal fans.

Polaris describes their music as having rock, metal and southern rock influences. Dare I be so bold as to also add grunge to the list? I swear I hear that influence in there as well. I think their music is a great combination of styles that gives them their own unique sound. They also unplug well in their song "Home".

Polaris plays tight and rocks hard. Dan Newkirk's vocals hooked me from the beginning, providing a distinct sound for the group. This is a band that has it together and will go far. I will have the distinct pleasure of saying I wrote about them "way back when" before they were superstars.

Go listen to Polaris' music and then come back and tell me what you think. Am I right or what?

You're not doing a whole lot for them by not mentioning why they rock so hard. Playing tight and good singing gets you on the radio, but you seem to think this is going to get a cult following. Call me a Tool fan, but I'm skeptical ;)

WHY they rock so hard you say? Too many caffeine drinks and ants in their pants maybe? Actually, I have started a Polaris cult and I invite you to join. Game?

Shearyadi, I am glad you like them too. Huge potential!

Wasn't Polaris the name of the band who wrote the theme song to the Nickelodeon show Pete and Pete? It's a long time ago, but I think they were.

"Indeed it is true, and Polaris has one hell of a lot to offer to heavy metal fans."
Well, it's been sold by way too many bands already. Screamo vocals, 2-3 riffs only guitars - we hear the same from young US bands for almost four years already.

I say enough is enough - want to promote young talents? Find original and creative ones. Polaris isn't :[

I havent heard any of the new stuff. Im a big fan from the Pete & Pete days.......

They need to change their fucking name. Polaris is the band who did a lot of the music from Pete and Pete and this band is a bunch of johnny come latelys.

Boo. Hiss.

The word 'generic' drifts to mind.

I realize that these guys might not be old enough to remember Pete and Pete, but a 2 second google search would probably have saved them a lot of trouble. The original Polaris is a great band, with quite a few fans. I expect they are going to be hearing that for a loooong time. Or at least until they change their name.

As a lifelong metal head, I could listen to this everyday. If it sounds good, I listen.

I bet they they could tear some eardrums out in a small venue!!!!

Sounds to me like yet another scream/sing whiny vocal group to me. The guitar riffs are good its but vocally just another high pitched wanna be "hard core" band.

I'm at the office, so I can't get to the Myspace page. Damn, damn, double damn. Anyway, I'm just excited by what I've read so far. Any other place to get their stuff? Help a newbie out!

okay here is two bands that own this band as far as unknowns. One from across the pond that would destroy most all radio music and the other an indie from Oregon

They aren't bad but nothing they do is original. The song structures are decent; the transitions between the parts flow nicely. The vocals are the typical metalcore screaming mixed with the clean singing.

I expect that these guys are playing the music they like and having fun doing it. However, if these songs showcase their "style" they probably aren't going to make it big. They just don't sound that different from what is already out there.

Nah, I think I'll pass on the Polaris cult.

Maybe you are wrong and I am right? Seriously people, I wrote my opinion and that is what it is, my opinion. Agree, disagree..... rake me over the coals, love me.... take your pick! Music has a way of bringing out emotion in people and I enjoy the heck out of that :)

This is terrible. The solos are out of key and amateurish. Why the f is this on digg? Please don't help fuel their fire; don't click on the myspace link.

God it's awful.

I can name tons of just Ohio bands that smoke these dudes.

Red Giant
Forged In Flame
Venomin James
Deathcrawl
Level-C
Living Stereo
Lo-Pan
Bloodwolf
Ringworm
and on, and on...

Generic shit alt-rock, I can't think of anything more boring. This is about as metal as Sum 41. These guys can't even play their instruments, ugh.

for real metal, see Brain Drill, After the Burial, August Burns Red

you know, people with real talent. this band won't last more than another year or two before they realize they're going nowhere.

A new platform for everyone to promote THEIR favorite bands...cool!! Love music, share music.

Wow, you guys really know how to suck. Seriously, i don't know how you captured such a shitty sound. its almost like you got into my brain, dugg around, found everything that i hate about life, and turned it into music! I am so glad you guys made it on Digg! i mean i would have never been able to find this without your help.

thanks!

OK.....screaming the lyrics and repeating riffs. They're good why?

Wasn't "Polaris" the name of the band that played in the opening credits of "The Adventures Pete & Pete"? I'm calling out this plagiarism and shenanigan-ry!

I think that people into metal would be more into Dr. Seuss is Dead than these guys. You should review their new shit.

Nothing special, except for their luck in getting a webvertisement. Check out Saosin, Electric Wizard, Grand Magnus or Candlemass instead.

Seems as if we have a Pete and Pete fan club going on here. I have never even heard of that show. Does that mean I am too young or too old?

Anonymous said...

not that impressed. i should have known that they wouldn't be too good with all this praise coming from a chick.

Anonymous said...

Oh Kelly...You are soooo young if you don't remember Pete and Pete!

That's awesome. Really cool stuff.

^^^ Cool! I am glad to hear that you liked them. Thanks for the input!

What is this?

I see Rock Blues guitar player,GW Williams name is everywhere.
Really? It's everywhere, whats up with that?

His name is in press releases,on blogs, forums,on radio and in the news.
He's selling on Amazon.com and itunes and on Sony records I think.
My question is where did this guitar freak come from?

What makes him one of the greatest top 10 guitar players ever, since he's only been selling music for 8 months about?
What about Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan?
Instead all I hear about is GW Williams.
I must admit he has several songs that could top the charts, like - Beyond The Clouds and Electric Son Rise and I guess his gospel song, On Easter Morning ,gots the hots in the church world also.
But I rather hear about the old guitar stars.

It's just I think to be a guitar superstar you need to be around a few years first.
Understand I am not trying to knock the guy, but Gezzzzzz, he's all over the Internet and everywhere I look these days?

Thanks Sally Frenchbrae
If you don't know what I am talking about check the link below for your self and do some research !!

P.S. Here's GW Williams rock, blues Guitar site. - GW Williams Rock,Blues Guitar

For your first music post it's very well written. I like the informal tone but I have to agree that you could be a bit more in depth about the sound of the band. I know it's hard to explain it in a post but it does appeal more if we get a real sense of what they're about. However, I do really like the look and style of your blog. :)
